AFCON 2019: Ghana high on confidence ahead of Cameroon clash

Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah strongly believes his side will beat Cameroon in their second Group F game at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday.

Coach Appiah and his team are under pressure to get their campaign back on track after following a 1-1 draw with Benin in their opening game.

It wasn’t just the draw but the performance of the team on the day has been criticised by many.

The defending champions, on the other hand, made the perfect start as they beat Guinea-Bissau 2-0.

The Black Stars have confronted the Indomitable Lions four times from 1982 and the best they have achieved is two group draws while suffering two semi-final defeats.

“Ghana have total respect for all teams and the mere fact that you beat a team last year, that does not mean you can beat the team again,” he said at the pre-match presser.

“We are going to give Cameroon a really good game and I am sure we will emerge victorious,”

Deputy Skipper Kwadwo Asamoah shares coach Appiah’s sentiments. According to him, they are highly motivated going into the Cameroon game although admits it won’t be easy.

“Is been so many years since we won this trophy, we have been one of the teams always getting close, It is not easy but I think we have to keep believing and with hard work, we can do it,” he said.

Ghana’s Probable starting team

Coach Appiah will keep faith in Richard Ofori as his number one with Andy Yiadom maintaining his right back spot.

Baba Rahman could come on for Lumor Agbeyenu and with John Boye’s suspension, coach Appiah is likely to go with Kassim Nuhu and Jonathan Mensah.

Afriyie Acquah could be deployed as the holding midfielder with Thomas Partey and Kwadwo Asamoah in the centre.

Jordan Ayew will start in attack with Andre Ayew playing on the right wing and Samuel Owusu on the left.
