Celestine Donkor to sue Rev. Obofour

Management of Celestine Donkor is threatening to take legal actions against founder and leader of Anointed Palace Chapel (APC), Rev Obofour for using her song ‘Agbebolo’ in promoting his ‘31st December All Night Service’ without permission.

A deep source tells Ghanaweb that, a query letter was sent to Rev. Obofour on November 29, 2019. The source explains that the recorded promotional video for the pastor’s 31st night had been aired on Kiss TV, Lion TV, Sweet TV and Cash TV, all affiliate stations of Rev Obofour.

In the leaked letter signed by Christian Akwesi Buame Esq, lawyer for Celestine Donkor stated that:

“My client informs me that, she has discovered you have used the song to record an advertisement of a programme your Church intend organizing on December 31st night, without her consent and or authorisation. Consequent to that, the said advert recorded with the song is being played on 4 television stations namely Kiss TV, Lion TV, Sweet TV and Cash TV, known to be affiliated to your Church.

Having violated the Copy Rights Act 2005, Ghana, the management of Mrs Celestine Donkor has demanded Rev Obofour render an account of profits made so for from using the song ‘Agbebolo’ in his promotions.

“Our client is hereby demanding an explanation of this matter. She also demands that you render account on profits made so far from using her song for commercial purpose and compensate her accordingly,” the lawyer added.

The source added that, upon receipt of the lawyer’s letter, management of Celestine Donkor, saw that the promotional video which has been airing for almost 3 weeks with the song, has been edited by Rev Obofour’s team.

“Rev Obofour’s team without responding back to the query letter, edited the song at the background,” the source disclosed.
