Ghana’s ‘Keteke’ nominated along with 15 African countries for 2019 FESPACO Awards

Ghana’s very own Peter Sedufia’s ‘Keteke’ has been nominated for the category of Yennenga Gold Standard of the 2019 Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO).

The organizing committee of the Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO) revealed on January 15, 2019, at the international press conference in Paris, France, the list of feature-length feature films selected for the 26th edition.

A total of 20 films are selected with 16 countries represented: Mali, Burkina Faso, Tunisia, Tanzania, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Mozambique, Morocco, Sudan, Rwanda, South Africa, Algeria, and Nigeria.

Burkina Faso has the highest number of films selected (three), followed by South Africa and Tunisia, each of which has two representatives.

This year’s selection is full of powerful and entertaining films that together celebrate the diversity and uniqueness of cultures and stories from all over the world.

Speaking to Ghanaweb, Mr Sedufia said “I am truly humbled by the news and I thank the team for this recognition. It’s a prestige to see your works being acknowledged globally”.

Synopsis of Keteke

Peter Sedufia’s film, Keteke tells a story focused on the 1980s rail service system in Ghana. A couple living in Puna, is bent on delivering their first baby in their home town Akete – but they miss the train, what will happen?

Peter Sedufia is a product of the National Film and Television Institute, Ghana with BFA degree in film directing.

He has directed several short films with varied awards, including FESPACO to his credit.
