Help fix Seaview, Red Top road - Residents appeal to MP 5

Residents at Sea View area at Bortianor in the Ga South Municipality in the Greater Accra Region have expressed displeasure about the deplorable state of their roads, and appealed to their Member of Parliament (MP) to help fix it.

They particularly complained of the 2.5 kilometre main road which connects the Sea View Junction through Red Top to the West Hill Mall as one that needed urgent attention.

According to the residents, though their Member of Parliament for Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfro, Alhaji Saad Habib, and the Ga South Assembly had promised to come to their assistance, the deplorable condition of the road was getting from bad to worse.

They said the assembly promised some culverts but it was yet to be delivered.

Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfrom is a sprawling community located in the Ga South Municipal District in the Greater Accra Region.

Recent rainfalls

Recent rainfalls have also added to the nightmare as residents and drivers, both private and commercial, have to go through the ordeal when travelling on that stretch of road.

Drivers in particular find it extremely difficult driving on that stretch any time it rains, as the road suddenly turns muddy, becoming slippery and dangerous.

Residents and commuters alike have had cause to complain about the road, decrying the potholes which keep increasing in size and depth.

Bad road to health facility

Unfortunately for the residents, the road also lead to the Bortianor Clinic and Bortianor D.A. School.

Patients visiting the clinic have had to endure the discomfort of travelling on the bad road, especially from the Red Top area

The nature of the road makes it difficult for emergency cases to be rushed in because drivers always have to slow down in order to bring in patients.

High maintenance cost

Some drivers who do business on that stretch, in an interview with the Daily Graphic, complained bitterly about the high maintenance costs they have had to endure to keep their vehicles in good shape.

One of the drivers said he had changed his shock absorbers many times in a space of a year, something he said had affected his finances negatively.

Another driver said they felt disrespected by the government’s inability to fix the road.

According to the driver despite the concerns raised by residents and drivers alike, it defied logic why the road had been left unattended to by the government.

‘We are worried’

Many residents and shop owners have expressed worry about the situation.

They indicated that the dust had affected their businesses in several ways, leading to low patronage.

The dust, they said, was unbearable and as such they had to regularly wipe dust off their products.

A resident said that the dust which gathered in his house was too much as he had to regularly clean up the house each time he returned from work.

Duty bearer

When contacted, the MP, Alhaji Habib, said all efforts were being made to fix the road on time but said the government was financially constrained.

He disclosed that the road had been earmarked by the Urban Roads for major asphalt works but said all would be dependent on how fast funding was raised for the project to commence.
