Here’s Why Justin Bieber Hasn’t Weighed In on the Hailey Bieber–Selena Gomez TikTok Drama

A sentence I never thought I’d write: I’m totally Team Justin Bieber on this one. While his wife and his ex “feud” on social media (more accurately, while their respective fans pick apart their and their friends’ posts looking for evidence of a feud), Biebs is reportedly keeping his lips sealed on the matter, and it makes total sense.

“Hailey and Justin are doing fine. They don’t want to continually deal with this repetitive, ongoing former relationship drama,” an unnamed source told Entertainment Tonight on March 14. “They are just taking things day by day and don’t want this to be something that impacts them negatively. Justin knows that speaking publicly about it will only amplify the situation and bring more attention to it, so they have been supporting each other privately.”

Honestly, smart. The stans will seize on any opportunity to fan these flames. Mere days ago the Canadian singer gave out lighters engraved with a platitude to guests at his birthday party, and people immediately took it as evidence that he’s either shading Selena, not over Selena, or somehow both. Each lighter was inscribed with the words: “I’m so thankful that I didn’t end up with what I thought I wanted.” A theory circulated that the words meant that since he couldn’t get Gomez, he settled for Hailey. One Twitter user commented: “Admitting that your wife was your second choice on your birthday is crazy lmao selena truly lives in his mind rent free.”

I’m sorry but…if anything is living anywhere rent-free, it’s this “drama” living rent-free in the public consciousness, because these people have not done anything scandalous enough to merit all this attention! Remember when Billy Crudup left pregnant Mary-Louise Parker for Claire Danes? Remember when Julia Roberts called off her engagement to Kiefer Sutherland three days before their wedding by running off with his best man? We deserve a real scandal, not some paper-thin beef that’s probably just a ruse to sell blush. Justin Bieber is right: enough.
