I lived with a metal bone for 5 years – Accident victim narrates her ordeal

Founder of ReachOut Foundation, Priscilla Naa Aklerh Ocantey, in the latest edition of People and Places, has narrated the ordeal she goes through daily having to live with a metal implant after a 5-year-old accident which nearly took her life.

Priscilla, who has already undergone five surgeries, is seeking assistance to help her get another treatment from a Limb Expert in South Africa.

She gave an account of how she has to deal with both physical and physiological pain each day due to the growth of soft tissues around the injured area.

Describing the discomfort, Naa Aklerh indicated that the tissues have formed a false joint at the affected area and will have to be removed during surgery which in the process will make her hands further shortened.

She narrated how her movement has been restricted as a result of the metal implant adding that access to transport on a daily basis is a challenge.

According to the activist, she does not use the affected hand in order not to strain it. She said the only time she does is during physio.

“Even now I don’t really go out unless I have to, cause you are sitting in a bus, somebody can push you, you are walking somebody can hit you without knowing, and they don’t know, you can’t blame them. People will always ask you what’s going on and recalling everything and telling everybody is not easy and having to talk about it and people can stare at you so much you feel like going into the ground,” she lamented.
