A group of inmates at a North Carolina prison savagely beat a 24-year-old man who was convicted of fatally shooting a toddler and critically wounding her grandmother, while they were sleeping, in 2014. According to reports, the aforementioned killings were an act of revenge by Semajs Short, who lost a 15-year-old friend to violence shortly before he committed this cold-blooded act.

Years later, Semajs Short met the same fate as his victims, as he was brutally murdered in the housing area of the Bertie Correctional Institution in Windsor. Three other inmates were hurt during the attack but they survived and were taken to the prison’s medical facility for non-life-threatening injuries.

The murder is currently being investigated while the entire prison has been placed on lockdown. Prior to his death, Short was serving a 31-year sentence for second-degree murder after fatally wounding the two-year-old when he was 17.
