Johnny Depp just released a new song wirtten by him that he is performing with fellow mucisian Jeff Beck. This is part of the new album that is releasing ofthe two artists who are currently doing a tour in Great Britain. Depp decided to release the new song by the name of ‘This Is a Song for Miss Hedy Lamarr‘ that talks about the hardships of celebrity status.

Hedy Lamarr is a prolific actress from the mid ‘1900s who lived through the transition from black and white to color cinema. She was one of the first Hollywood stars who suffered the perils of fame and was also a prolific inventor with a number of patents to her name. In a sense, Johnny Depp developed a liking to her story for the similarities they share.

This is part of the song Depp wrote and recently released on Jeff Beck’s official Youtube channel: “Erased by the same world who made her a star. The light of her being, her exotic allure / was torn at the seams for daring to dream / it’s so hard to speak when you’re frozen in scream … Feels like a dream, but it’s life and it’s death.”

“I don’t believe, I can’t believe, I won’t believe humans any more. It’s so hard to talk when no one will hear, and everyone stares as you quiver in fear. Stripped of belief, a thief is a thief / who’s going to stand up to give you relief / of all dispossessed, it’s so hard to digest / you’ve no right to sit down if you’re nobody’s guest.”

Although it is a coincidence that one of the most publicized trials in history with Johnny Depp at the center of it just ended. This song does touch on a subject that is close to the actor’s heart. Since the early ’90s, Johnny has always been one of the most public figures in the world.

There hasn’t been a day of solitude inside society he’s truly enjoyed. Celebrities lose that sense of tranquility as soon as they become famous, it’s a sacrifice they make for all the wealth that comes with that fame. Depp’s lyrics are a love letter to all those celebrities who suffered as he and Lamarr have.
