Medikal surprises patrons of maiden TINA Festival

Music fans from all over Ghana and the diaspora who gathered at the Round Pavilion of the Trade Fair Centre for the maiden TINA Festival were served a surprise treat when AMG rapper, Samuel Adu Frimpong popularly known as Medikal, took to the stage to thrill the audience.

This was an unexpected turn of events since performing on stage at that moment was British-born Ghanaian musician, Eugy. Thus, when Medikal’s ‘Too Risky’ song started playing in the background, the attendees of the event thought it might have been a mix-up.

However, attendees became buoyant and hyper when the AMG rapper joined Eugy on stage to perform ‘Too Risky’. Patrons of the TINA Festival could not help but sing along when Medikal performed ‘Wrowroho’ as well.

On the bill were other artistes such as Sarkodie, Joey B, Pappy Kojo, Feli Nuna and other UK-based artistes such as Eugy, Lethal Bizzle, Sneakbo, and Stefflon Don. There was also a surprise performance from Nigerian artiste, D’banj.

The first ever ‘This Is New Africa’ (TINA) Festival climaxed a series of events that sought to reignite the spirit of black unity across the diaspora.

The three-day event, which is the brainchild of afro-pop artiste Fuse ODG, commenced with a trip to his school in Akosombo on Wednesday, January 2, 2019. The school, which is being run by TINA and World Mission Charity was repainted by volunteers.

January 3rd marked the ‘Global Diaspora Conference’ which took place at the Accra International Conference Centre. The conference featured discussions on how to promote Africa beyond aid as well as waking up the sleeping giant of the diaspora. Key speakers at the event included actress Ama K Abebrese, Bola Ray, BBC TV broadcaster Reggie Yates, fitness coach Chaka Bars and Fuse ODG.

The TINA Festival was an initiative that aimed at projecting core African values and culture through arts.
