MUSIGA presidency bid on hold - Appietus 5

After failed attempts to lead the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), renowned sound engineer, Appietus, has disclosed that he will not contest for the role next year when the union holds its elections to choose new leaders.

Appietus, who has a big vision to help rejuvenate MUSIGA, told Showbiz that he was not interested in running for the position of president now. And his reason is simple; the organisation is no longer attractive to young musicians.

Besides, Appietus said he was currently working on a project which was taking up his time, which was his discovering and recording 100 artistes selected across the 10 regions of the country.

He told Showbiz that he was now mobilising the young musicians to become interested in MUSIGA and then he could run for the position.

“Now everything about MUSIGA is about the aged which is not the best. The young musicians have been neglected, hence the reason why they are not interested in the affairs of MUSIGA.

“Sincerely speaking, I will be telling the young musicians lies if I run for president now. I first need to get about 80 per cent of the youth interested in the union and that is what I have started with the 100 artistes I am recording,” he said.

In Appietus’ view, the current president of MUSIGA, Bice Osei Kufour, popularly known as Obour, is to be blamed for making the young musicians feel neglected.

“I don’t want the young musicians to blame me for incompetence when indeed they are not part of the union. If I have more than 80 per cent of them on board the union then we can bridge the gap between the old and the new”, he said.

Asked when he thinks he would run for MUSIGA?president and the best candidate he would suggest, Appietus, who has worked with almost all the top names in the music industry, said he had no one in mind at the moment.

“For now I can’t tell the manifestos of the other candidates so I cannot nominate anyone but I will confidently contest after winning the hearts of the young musicians who are not interested in MUSIGA now,” he stated.
