Gospel musician, Patience Nyarko, has threatened legal action against the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for using her song at its delegate congress held at Koforidua last year without her approval.

Speaking on Adom entertainment Hall on Adom FM with Mike 2 last Saturday she said, the NPP during its congress at Koforidua used her song without consulting her management.

“I got a hint that NPP was using my song during their congress without my consent where the MC being an active member of the party, Lord Commey, declaring ‘Obi Nyanime” song as the official song for the event which borders on copyright…” Patience Nyarko revealed.

When asked what would be the next line of action if her management doesn’t hear from the party, she said they would go to court.

“The reason is that I think about my fans, we first considered what the party discussed with us to make peace but they think they are big and that they can just take someone’s property without thinking about the person”, she added.

The ‘Atigya’ singer went on to also reveal that her management had written officially to the General Secretary of the party, John Boadu, Chief of Staff Tourism minister but had yielded no results.

“People think I have sold the song to NPP, it is very difficult for people to believe me when I ask for loan from them because they think I have taken money from NPP. Nobody has given me anything, they took the song without my consent”, she sadly said.

“It’s not right, it’s a big offence for using someone’s intellectual property without the person’s knowledge and I believe that NPP is a big party which understands all these legalities so I’m hoping for the right thing to be done or go to court for redress”, she stated.

Meanwhile, when contacted the deputy General Secretary of the part, Lawyer Obiri Boahene, apologized on the party’s behalf for the mistake, adding that, the management should exercise patience for the matter to be solved amicably than discussing it on air.

NPP held an Annual Delegates Conference of the party last year at Koforidua which brought party delegates, Ministers, Members of Parliament, Municipal and District Chief Executives as well as party constituency executives and supporters from far and near.
