Rihanna’s Super Bowl Performance Receives Over 100 FCC Complaints For Being ‘Pornographic’

Rihanna’s Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show performance was hit with over 100 complaints from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for being too pornographic for viewers.

According to a report from TMZ earlier this week, people flooded the FCC with complaints about Rihanna’s performance being too sexual. The issue with the show came from the lyrics and choreography and people comparing it to pornography.

TMZ obtained 103 complaints made by the FCC with most of them having to do with the backup dancers who were doing “overtly sexual” dances during Rihanna’s comeback performance. One person in particular compared RiRi’s set to Kim Petra and Sam Smith’s sultry performance at the 2023 Grammys.

“I don’t care what someone worships but children shouldn’t be exposed to pornography and as an adult I don’t wish to see it … Where has decency gone? How about respect for others and self,” the person wrote.

Another in Utah said: “This year the halftime show was so indecent I had to turn off the TV because of the pornographic content.”

Rihanna also received backlash for spreading “her ass cheek at the crack. She rubbed her pants where her labia were three times.”

Rihanna’s comeback performance was one for the books as she revealed to the world she’s expecting her second child with A$AP Rocky. She also reportedly earned over $350,000 in song royalties after the show thanks to a massive increase in streaming.

“We Found Love” was the biggest earner for Rihanna, bringing in a whopping $60,101 in royalties for the Bajan billionaire after racking up over 15 million streams. “Umbrella,” “Diamonds,” “Only Girl (In The World),” “Bitch Better Have My Money” followed close behind, racking in $57,655, $49,541, $44,842 and $41,893, respectively.

According to a report from Apple Music, the day after the Big Game on February 12, RiRi’s concurrent worldwide listeners on the streaming service skyrocketed by a whopping 331%.

The Super Bowl Halftime performance is just the start of Rihanna’s comeback as she will also be taking the stage at the 95th Academy Awards. Variety reports the superstar singer will perform her Oscar-nominated song “Lift Me Up” from the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack when the 2023 ceremony goes down live on ABC on March 12.
