Singing pays but I won’t switch from rap to singing – Sarkodie

The popular perception in reference to music is that singing pays more than real rap music. Remember everyone wants to dance especially among music enthusiasts in Ghana.

This has been the major reason why Ghana has an uncountable number of rappers but few have been able to register their presence, nationwide. For the singers continue to be adored by lovers of music.

But according to SarkCess Music CEO, he will never switch the rap genre he represents although he is fully aware how singing which cometh with more commercial songs pay in the music industry.

Speaking to NYDJ in the studios of YFM in Kumasi, the Ghana’s finest rapper reiterated that he’s the type of artist who doesn’t jump on any beat just because he wants to be commercially relevant adding that money would not even be a motivation for such move.

“You need to stand for something. If you don’t stand for something, you’ll be missing out. No amount of money will make me jump on certain songs even though I know they will blow. I have to feel it. If I don’t feel it…”

He revealed how often he’s had to go through several beats sent to him by M.O.G just to find the ones he ‘feels.’

“M.O.G sends me like thousands of beats and I choose the ones that I like so if the fans are lucky and it turns out to be commercial, good for them but I don’t sit down and say I need a commercial song for them to jam to.

If I hear a beat and it’s dope (I’ll go in). The tones in U Go Kill Me was something different that made me rap on it” he said. On whether he’ll add singing to his style so he can reach a wider audience since many people argue that singers make a mark on the global market than rappers, Sark said:

“I’ve never been that type of an artist. I just record music and if the beat is good, I jump. I’m not going to start singing like Davido and Mugeez. If I do a song that needs them, I’ll link them up” he said.
