A new musical featuring producer Max Martin’s catalog is hitting the stage in 2019. The production entitled & Juliet is inspired by the romantic tragedy by Shakespeare. Here’s the pitch: “[This] irreverent and fun-loving new West End musical asks: what if Juliet’s famous ending was really just her beginning? What if she decided to choose her own fate? This is Juliet’s story now. So don’t tell her how it ends…” Essentially, the leading lady opts to keep living instead of plunging a dagger into her heart after her lover decides to poison himself. How modern!

Considering Martin’s prolific career, many popular hits will be included in the upcoming musical. “Oops… I Did It Again” by Britney Spears as well as “I Can’t Feel My Face” by The Weeknd have been confirmed as part of the soundtrack. The use of contemporary music will add freshness to an already novel take on the dramatic classic. Miriam Teak-Lee, who performed in Hamilton as an ensemble member in the West End cast, is set to play the lead role in & Juliet.

Those who are interested in these types of shows can keep an eye on our girl Tinashe. The R&B star scored the lead role in Rent Live, airing on Fox Sunday, January 27, at 8 p.m. ET.
