Alleged accomplice is innocent – JB Danquah’s ‘killer’

Daniel Asiedu, the main suspect standing trial for allegedly murdering the former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, J.B. Danquah has told an Accra district court that his alleged accomplice, Vincent Bosso, is innocent of charges proffered against him.

According to Daniel Asiedu the second accused person was not present and had no knowledge of the events leading to the murder of the late MP.

In an open confession in court during the committal process on Wednesday, Daniel Asiedu admitted in that, he went to the house of the late MP to kill him and not to engage in robbery as stated as part of the charges leveled against him.

The main suspect further revealed that he was engaged by some persons within the NPP to commit the crime.

He told the court that these persons who engaged his services assisted him to enter the house of the late MP with the assurance that he will be arrested and freed afterward.

His testimony in court contradicts the facts given by prosecution which alleges that two accused persons conspired to go on a robbery spree after which the second accused person Vincent Bosso retreated over a disagreement on which house to begin with.

The district court after the confession committed both accused persons to the High Court where a full trial of the matter will take place.

Asiedu is standing trial for allegedly murdering the Abuakwa North MP, JB Danquah in 2016.

The suspect on had voluntarily confessed in court that some NPP members contracted him to assassinate the MP, and also threatened to name the persons behind the murder.

Background

Daniel Asiedu and Vincent Bosso, have been charged with murder and abetment for the murder of the late MP.

Asiedu had earlier said that he went to the MP’s house to steal but ended up killing him in self-defense.

He subsequently withdrew these claims and stated that he had gone with the intention of killing the legislator.

The late J.B Danquah-Adu was stabbed to death on February 9, 2016, at his Shiashie residence in Accra.

Daniel Asiedu, who was the prime suspect, was arrested two days after the incident.

One other person was also arrested later in connection with the killing.

The murder of the former MP shocked many and led to discussions concerning the security of legislators.
