Grandmaster Flash Reacts To GlorRilla’s ‘F.N.F.’

Grandmaster Flash, who has already shown himself willing to support the latest wave of women in Hip Hop, has shared his opinion on GloRilla‘s music.

HipHopDX caught up with the pioneer at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards, where he revealed that his children had been trying to get him to check out the rising Memphis star. Once presented with the opportunity to hear her breakout single, “F.N.F.,” Grandmaster Flash instantly approved.

“Okay GloRilla! This shit sounds like fun too,” he exclaimed. “She’s talking shit and she’s having fun which is what Hip Hop should be.”

Moments after being introduced to GloRilla’s music, Grandmaster Flash ended up on stage with the newcomer as part of the Grammy’s Hip Hop 50 Tribute.

Introduced by LL COOL J and Curated by Questlove, the Hip Hop 50 Tribute at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards was kicked off by Black Thought backed by the rest of The Roots crew. With DJ Jazzy Jeff and DJ Drama holding down the turntables, a parade of artists starting with the Furious Five and Run-DMC kicked off a journey celebrating the genre’s full history.

Following acts like De La Soul, Queen Latifah, Public Enemy and Rakim, the show moved into the late ’90s and early 2000s with appearances by Method Man, The Lox, Missy Elliott and Nelly. The show was closed out by GloRilla, Lil Baby and Lil Uzi Vert representing the current generation of Hip Hop talent.

Late last year, Grandmaster Flash also threw his support behind Coi Leray after she sampled his classic single “The Message” for what would become her own hit single, “Players.”

The two had dinner in New York City on November 14, after which the Hip Hop pioneer shared some footage from the meet-up. In the photos, fans can see Coi and Flash in the middle of a conversation and laughing up a storm.

Grandmaster Flash also gifted Coi a custom-made hoodie with the slogan “Girls Are Players Too” in traditional bubble graffiti font that the Trendsetter rapper shared in her Instagram Story.

“It was nice meetin Coi,” Grandmaster Flash wrote in the caption of his post. “We chopped it up about Life, Music, the Business and she comes back with great answers — the Lady knows what she wants. Had a blast with her, until next time kid Watch out for her @coileray.”

The dinner between the two came days after the “TWINNEM” rapper shared a video on Instagram previewing an unreleased record that features a heavy sample of Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five’s classic 1982 hit “The Message.”

Coi takes inspiration from the original cadence of the iconic early Hip Hop record and can be heard championing women on the unreleased joint, which she crowned the “new anthem” even before it was released.

“Players” went on to become Coi Leray’s first No. 1 single, after topping Billboard‘s Rap Digital Songs for the week ending January 21. The song struck No. 1 again on February 14, placing Coi at the top of the Emerging Artists Chart.
