Most people are convinced that Kanye West has been stuck in the sunken place ever since he married into the Kardashian family. I mean, there’s definitely an argument to be made about how his music and career shifted since marrying Kim but he’s also been his most happiest — or so it would appear. Jordan Peele’s Get Out is what sparked the term ‘Sunken Place’ which the director described to Rolling Stone as “a new term we have to aid us in the discussion of what appears, to me, to be black people choosing an ideology that is racist against black people.” With Kanye’s recent outbursts, you’d think Peele would categorize Kanye as such, but in fact, he believes that Kanye’s simply trying to tell his truth.
“However frustrated I am with what he’s doing, the artist in me is like, ‘He saw my movie!’” Peele said. “The thing about Kanye is, it feels to me that, whatever he’s going through, he’s trying to tell his truth. And there’s something magnetic about people who are trying to tell the truth. I might be wrong, but my feeling is that even when he’s saying something I disagree with, he’s trying to tell his truth, and that’s more than you can say about 90 percent of people.”
Jordan Peele is currently getting ready to debut his new film Us which is due out on March 22nd.
