Kate Hudson is set to star in Mindy Kaling‘s upcoming Netflix comedy series set in the front office of a professional basketball team, Variety has learned.

The untitled series was ordered straight-to-series at Netflix in June 2021. The streamer has given the series a 10 episode order.

The official logline states, “When a scandal forces her brother to resign, Isla Gordon (Hudson) is appointed President of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most storied professional basketball franchises, and her family business. Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job, especially in the unpredictable, male-dominated world of sports.”

Hudson is best known for her film work, though she has been in multiple television shows during her career. Most recently, she starred in the second season of the Apple TV+ drama series “Truth Be Told.” She also appeared in several episodes of the hit Fox musical series “Glee,” among other shows. In film, Hudson won a Golden Globe and received an Academy Award nomination for her role as Penny Lane in “Almost Famous.” Her other film roles include “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” “Bride Wars,” “Deepwater Horizon,” “Marshall,” “Music” (which earned her another Golden Globe nomination), and “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.”

She is repped by CAA, Untitled Entertainment, Full Coverage Communications, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

Kaling serves as co-writer and executive producer on the series along with frequent collaborators Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen, with Stassen also serving as showrunner. Elaine Ko was originally attached to write, executive produce, and showrun, but she is no longer involved with the project.
