Nigerian rapper Naira Marley has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The rapper whose real name is Afeez Fashola was arrested on Friday morning and was taken to the EFCC office in Lagos where he will be questioned.
The reason for his arrest is yet to be determined but sources say that his public support for internet fraud and his new song “I am a yahoo boy” featuring zlatan Ibile are possible reasons for his arrest.
Naira Marley has caused a lot of confusion on social media with his questionable stance on the subject of internet fraud popularly known in Nigeria as “Yahoo yahoo.”
The rapper on several occasions has stated that yahoo yahoo is the reason why money circulates in the system and that his fans should pray for people who engage in the illegal act.
He further showed his support for the illegal activity by making a song and releasing a video titled “I am a yahoo boy”, a clear endorsement of the frowned upon activity. Other celebrities have supported his claim.
Davido and Zlatan Ibile are two of many celebrities who have thrown their support beind the rapper’s rants.
Simi on the other hand has publicly condemned the act and has stated that she does not mind if yahoo boys stop patronizing her shows and listening to her music.
