Published

on

Nigeria woke up to news that rapper Ruggedman had been attacked by unidentified men who claimed to be fans of Naira Marley in London.

A video in circulation showed a man being attacked by about four men with chairs at a place which seemed like a restaurant.

Confirming the news via social media, the rapper noted that he was attacked by some misguided youth but that would not stop him from fighting for the youth.

“Being attacked by 4 misguided boys will not deter me from fighting for the youths, even though they blindly fight me” he said.

However, a section of the public is of the view that Ruggedman staged the act. Not only that. They doubt the video is current.

On the other hand, some people have been condemning the act, calling for an end to the Ruggedman-Marley controversy.

The Ruggedman – Naira Marley brawl

There has been a heated ‘battle’ between the two musicians for some weeks now after Naira Marley justified cybercrime.

Marley in an Instagram post suggested that slavery justifies the internet fraud, popularly known as Yahoo Yahoo, in Nigeria.

He argued that it’s only a form of recouping the losses of ancestors who were victims of the slave trade and should not be condemned in any uncertain terms.

“If you know about slavery, you go know sey Yahoo no b crime,” he wrote.

But Ruggedman had a different opinion. In a post on his Instagram, he warned Marley not to mislead his followers into thinking it’s a good thing as there are legal consequences when caught.

“My brother, I love your music and all but you need to get one thing clear and do not mislead people. Especially kids on social media,” he wrote.

“You can do Yahoo all you want, but do not disrespect the part of the black race that was sold into slavery by trying to use it to justify cybercrime. The people who bought slaves died ages ago,” he added.

A moment after, Marley jabbed Ruggedman, labelling him a moron.

It is also instructive to mention that Ruggedman, claimed he had received several death threats ever since the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced that Naira Marley and Zlatan Ibile will be arraigned before court.

Marley and three others [Tiamiu Abdulrahman Kayode, Adewunmi Adeyanju Moses and Abubakar Musa] had on May 10, 2019 been arrested in connection with an alleged case of internet fraud & money laundering.
