The 3 classic Grammy awards of American singer-songwriter, Tracy Chapman popularly known for her hit singles ”Fast Car” became a subject of debate after her album received six Grammy awards nominations.

In 1988, the singer released her debut album, Tracy Chapman after she was signed to Elektra Records by Bob Krasnow which changed her music dynamic leading to her successful story in the music industry.

The album which was Tracy Chapman’s hit in that year boosted her music career and she received Best New Artist, Best Contemporary Folk Recording for her Debut Album and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for Fast Car at the 31st Annual Grammy Awards.

This portal believes Tracy’s appearance at the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute concert brought the attention of Grammy Awards to recognize her outstanding achievements in the music industry.

However, in three other categories, Tract Chapman was nominated but lost the Grammy award to her competitors.

She was nominated Album of the Year but English singer-songwriter and record producer George Michael won with his second single ”Faith”.

Again, American jazz singer and songwriter, Bobby McFerrin snatched ‘Record of the Year’ award from Tracy Chapman with his first single ‘Don’t Worry Be Happy’.

Moreover, Tracy’s
ambition to win ‘Song of the Year’ fell short after Bobby McFerrin won the award with his single Don’t Worry Be Happy.

In 2023, Chapman became the first Black person to score a country number one with a solo composition, and to win the Country Music Association Award for Song of the Year, when Luke Combs covered her song “Fast Car”.
