Gospel music has not received much attention – George Quaye

George Quaye, the Head of Communications at Charterhouse, organisers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), has agreed to the assertion that the country’s gospel music has not really had enough attention to make be on the same level with the secular music.

George Quaye in an interview with Sammy Flex on Zylofon’s Showbiz Agenda was addressing why VGMA is not paying much attention to the Gospel genre in relation to the Life Time Achievement Category and more specifically, Elder Emmanuel Mireku’s work in the industry.

He noted that gospel musicians aren’t getting enough attention from the media but that “doesn’t necessarily mean the VGMA doesn’t pay attention to gospel music”.

The former Head of Communications at gold dealership firm, Menzgold, George Quaye, explained that VGMA doesn’t concentrate on one genre of music in its work but Ghana music as a whole.

He added that all the other genres might have a position should they concentrate on the lesser picture rather than the bigger one. He therefore advised that the idea of asking a particular genre to be shown a special attention must not be encouraged by the people who are making it look like they are trying to push an agenda for Elder Mireku.

He, however declined with uncertainty the assertion that the Life Time Achievement Category of the scheme has never awarded any gospel musician over the past 20 years as he believes the awardees for that very category in VGMA’s 10th Anniversary included gospel musicians.
